From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.
